Additional Information:
Commercial cat food is often based on indigestible fillers and other things that may cause urinary tract infection and other risks, it is important for us to feed them properly with a raw recipe diet that provides all the nutrients a healthy cat needs.
Raw Feeding guidelines
Ingredients:
- Uncooked whole chicken (bones, skin, meat)
- Chicken organ meat (livers, gizzard, heart) for added treat
- Unsweetened canned pumpkin which replicates stomach content of prey diet.
- Kitty Bloom "VM-900+3"
- Cold Water
- Baby Food Squash
(We use stainless steel cooking pot with strong handles to mix it up - NOT Teflon pan)
(We use large metal mixing spoon to stir it all up and to put in Ziploc bags or a vacuum food packer)
Example:
3 whole roaster chickens with skin, meat, everything!
1 Package chicken livers.
1 Package chicken gizzards.
1 Package chicken hearts.
2 Small packages of squash baby food
1 15 oz. can Pumpkin
1/3 cup of Kitty Bloom
3 cups COLD water
Process:
1. Cut up whole chickens into small pieces (bone and all) with a meat cleaver on a large cutting
board
2. Grind up chicken after rinsing, use entire chicken, skin, bones, giblets, necks, etc. into a large
mixing container
3. Grind up livers, gizzards, and hearts
4. Mix all the meat together very well
5. Add pumpkin and Kitty Bloom and squash together in separate container - mix it up very well
6. Add water to pumpkin mixture and mix
7. Add pumpkin mixture to ground chicken mixture and mix very well
Mix should look like a pink pudding., should be stiff enough to hold up mixing spoon then
slowly fall to side of pan
Bag it up! (use quart size zip lock for a single cat)
Fold down edges, flop 3 or so big spoonsful into the bag.
Drop on countertop (to compress air out of flops)
Fold edge back to zip position
Press out air, and make even "pancake" of the slurry
Zip shut (careful to keep zips free of food)
Freeze flat
Defrost in refrigerator overnight (not in microwave!). If you're short on time, ok to defrost in cold water, keep an eye on it, don’t let it spoil.
Spoon out table spoonful on to plate, smash it down, and add teaspoon (or so) of water and
mix around so it's a smooth pudding texture - this is a GREAT way to make sure she's getting water into her diet.
Hints:
'quick mix' ok, to cut up chicken breast pieces and feed that for a 'treat' or Incorporate larger pieces in the mix, helps with teeth/gum health & replicates natural carnivore actions.
Excellent to offer other protein sources (Le. frozen "pinkie" mice from the Snake Food section of the pet store, an uncooked chicken wing tip, raw rabbit meat, X" cubes of Chicken Gizzards etc.) along with the basic raw diet.
Freeze Dried Chicken is a wonderful training treat!
We serve our food to the cats on paper plates and throw them away.
